The Football Association [The FA] is the not-for-profit governing body of football in England. It is responsible for promoting and developing every level of the game, from grassroots through to the professional game, and generates significant revenue to support investment into English football each year.

The FA oversees England international teams across men's, women's, youth and disability football, as well as running the National League System and FA Competitions including the Emirates FA Cup, Barclays Women's Super League, Barclays Women's Championship, and Vitality Women's FA Cup, and the world-class facilities of Wembley Stadium and St. George's Park, all with a purpose to Unite the Game and Inspire the Nation.

The Barclays Women's Super League (BWSL) and Barclays Women's Championship (BWC) Board is a partnership between the FA and the clubs in the two top tiers of the women's football pyramid. The composition of the Board is made up of an independent Chair, three FA representatives, six club representatives and two independent non-executive directors. The FA representatives are the CEO, the Chair of the Women's Football Board and the Director of Women's Football. The club representatives are elected by the clubs with three elected from the BWSL and three from the BWC

The Role

We are seeking to appoint an Independent Non-Executive Director (INED) whose primary role is to bring objectivity to Board discussions. The Board oversees the development of the two leagues and the execution of the strategy to create a sustainable and world leading club competition for professional and semi-professional players.

You will have a passion for women's sport/football and the value it can bring to society. You will have experience of influencing at a senior executive level but preferably at Board level. A track record of demonstrable experience in one or more of the following sectors is essential:

  • Commercial
  • Marketing and communications
  • High performance sport

You will bring an independent perspective to enhance decision making, always ensuring that the Board acts with integrity. You will ensure that all the different stakeholder interests are considered and will have highly developed interpersonal and communication skills. You will also enjoy being an ambassador for the women's game and the leagues and support them as they continue to grow.

Time Commitment

The Board reports directly to the main FA Board and meets approximately 6 times a year in London, plus you will be expected to attend fixtures and events.

Term

INEDs can serve for a maximum of 3 terms of 3 years.

Definition of Independence

Candidates must be free from any close connection to The FA (such as being actively involved in The FA's affairs or having been an employee in the previous four years). Additionally, they must not be an employee, director, officer or have a commercial relationship with a range of organisations within the football family, such as a league, club, or County FA.
