The Role

Reporting to the Product Delivery Director this hands-on, site based, position will directly lead the Manufacturing activities to ensure alignment with operational objectives and KPIs in relation to Safety, Cost, Quality and Delivery.

You will prove inspirational leadership and direction to your team to ensure they strive to achieve the highest of standards whilst keeping them safe, engaged, focused, and always delivering to their potential.

Specific Activities Include:

  • Developing and delivering a manufacturing continuous improvement plan that achieves tangible short and long term improvements.
  • Working with senior colleagues across the business and external stakeholders to optimise collaborative working and maximise business performance.
  • Managing and optimising productivity levels and making timely interventions in respect of utilisation, efficiency, and quality.
  • Being accountable for on time delivery of the overall production plan in line with the allocated budget.
  • Developing annual budgets for operational expenditure (OpEx) as well as reviewing and approving expenditures and management of the OpEx budget on an ongoing basis.
  • Developing annual and longer term capital expenditure (CapEx) budget plans and preparation and execution of detailed capital expenditure proposals.
  • Reviewing medium to long term resource demand versus capacity and then taking appropriate remedial action.
  • Balancing the competing demands of different projects in order to achieve the best outcome for customers, resources, and space.
  • Ensuring that the manufacturing function operates in accordance with any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and visitors.
  • Creating and maintaining the appropriate organisational structure, resource plans and culture to support the business objectives and customer deliverables.
  • Monitoring and managing the individual and collective performance of the manufacturing team through regular coaching and mentoring.

Skills & Experience:

  • Experience of Leadership with the ability to flex your approach from being strategic to being hand-on.
  • Ideally educated to degree level in a relevant engineering /manufacturing discipline
  • A proven track record in a low volume manufacturing environment, delivering improvements in safety, cost, time, and quality outcomes.
  • Experience and ability to influence at senior management level.
  • Proven project management and build quality experience.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience within fabrication, machining, and assembly of close tolerance specialist products.
  • Experienced in the implementation of 5S, Kaizen, TQM and other CI tools where applicable to transform Ansaldo Nuclear manufacturing.
