Head of Operations – South West Wales

Flexibly based, however due to the operational nature of this role, the successful candidate will need to be visible regularly within the area to meet staff, stakeholders and customers. Travel across South West Wales will be routine, with less frequent travel required across Wales more widely as a member of Natural Resources Wales’ Leadership Team.

Salary up to £72,627 plus generous pension and potential relocation.

Natural Resources Wales (NRW) is an ambitious organisation with a unique legislative remit that is breaking new ground in the sustainable management of Wales’ precious natural resources. When natural resources and ecosystems flourish, society and the economy also thrive. Established in 2013 by Welsh Government, this pan-Wales organisation of 2400 people with a budget of £242m is the first of its kind in the world to bring together the tools needed to manage, maintain, enhance and sustain natural resources. The organisation wants to be one of the first to leave the natural environment in a better state than it found it in and to help improve the well-being and prosperity of the people of Wales.

A vacancy has arisen in NRW’s Operations Leadership Team, offering a rare opportunity for someone to help achieve this and support the development of NRW into a high performing organisation, putting the organisation’s values front and centre. The role gives exceptional scope for someone with a passion for the natural environment, operational delivery, internal and external collaboration to make a real difference on a significant scale.

The Head of Operations for South West Wales will lead a team of c160 across Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire, Neath & Port Talbot and Swansea. With a budget of £12m, you will be delivering the sustainable management of South West Wales’ natural resources by helping tackle the climate and nature emergencies and minimising pollution. You will lead the delivery of NRW’s place-based strategy for South West Wales, working closely with diverse stakeholders, optimising economic prosperity and the sustainable management of Wales’ natural resources. This delivery is very broad and encompasses the sustainable management of NRW’s extensive woodlands (for timber products, recreation, biodiversity and climate), managing its national nature reserves, flood and coastal risk management, being an effective environmental regulator, fulfilling NRW’s Category 1 incident management duties (including flood related events), environmental monitoring and advising on environmental management and ensuring NRW participates fully in the work of Public Service Boards in South West Wales. You will be a strong advocate for NRW’s work and be proud to serve the people of Wales by being connected, bold, caring and resourceful.

Gyda chyllideb o £12m, byddwch yn sicrhau y caiff adnoddau naturiol De-orllewin Cymru eu rheoli’n gynaliadwy drwy helpu i fynd i’r afael â’r argyfyngau hinsawdd a natur a lleihau llygredd. Byddwch yn arwain ar y gwaith o gyflawni strategaeth CNC sy’n seiliedig ar leoedd ar gyfer De-orllewin Cymru, gan weithio’n agos gyda rhanddeiliaid amrywiol, gwneud y gorau o ffyniant economaidd a rheoli adnoddau Cymru’n gynaliadwy. Mae’r gwaith cyflwyno yn eang iawn ac yn cwmpasu rheoli coetiroedd helaeth Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru yn gynaliadwy (ar gyfer cynhyrchion pren, hamdden, bioamrywiaeth a’r hinsawdd), rheoli gwarchodfeydd natur cenedlaethol y sefydliad, rheoli peryglon llifogydd ac arfordirol, bod yn rheoleiddiwr amgylcheddol effeithiol, cyflawni dyletswyddau rheoli digwyddiadau Categori 1 Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru (gan gynnwys digwyddiadau cysylltiedig â llifogydd), monitro amgylcheddol a chynghori ar reoli amgylcheddol a sicrhau bod CNC yn cymryd rhan lawn yng ngwaith Byrddau Gwasanaethau Cyhoeddus yn Ne-orllewin Cymru.
