Job Details

The Metropolitan Police has a clear mission to achieve More Trust, Less Crime and High Standards. Confidence in the Met has been falling and a renewed top team have established a Turnaround Plan setting out how the Met will achieve its mission through core policing activities, refreshed values and nine turnaround priorities.

With circa 50,000 officers and staff, the Metropolitan Police Service is the UK’s largest police service with c.25% of the total police budget for England and Wales. It is the territorial police force responsible for law enforcement in Greater London and the coordination of significant national responsibilities such as Counter Terrorism.

Following a redesign of its executive structures, the Met is looking for an ambitious Interim CFO who will not only be the statutory finance lead overseeing the finance department but will also be at the forefront of the wider change agenda at the heart of the organisation and making its multi-billion-pound budget work for London.

Supporting the Commissioner and Management Board with expert advice, the Interim CFO will lead a transformation of the Finance function, strengthening strategic capability, creating a best in class function that works alongside the organisation, partnering with leaders to enable informed and robust discussions around productivity, efficiency, and operational delivery.

Critical to success in the future will be creating new capabilities to deliver a large scale efficiency programme which will both deliver savings through a priority based budgeting approach but at the same time create a culture of continuous improvement and innovation, where the Met takes advantage of advancement in technologies and ways of working to innovate existing processes, releasing capacity to the frontline.

For this role you will have extensive experience operating at a similar level and expertise in influencing the board, driving change, and making risk-based decisions with the ultimate aim of keeping London safe.

You will play an influential role with a range of stakeholders, and work collaboratively and regularly with the MOPAC CFO to manage the significant responsibilities and complex financial management arrangements for policing in London.

For this role you must be as comfortable balancing operational excellence with strategic delivery while simultaneously building capability and driving change through the finance function and beyond.

An outstanding relationship builder, you will be an influencer at senior levels internally and externally, as well as being a resilient, solutions-focused people leader.

You will be proven operating in a Public Sector context, but prior experience from the emergency services is not essential as The Met are keen to consider senior finance leaders from across all sectors.

To apply, please send your CV and cover letter of no more than 2 pages incorporating specific examples of how you meet the brief by Monday, 29th May  (11:59pm). Please do not phone to register your candidacy as we anticipate a high level of interest and we will endeavour to be in touch with you after the closing date.
