Client & Requirement  

Our client is a well-established and highly successful full-service law firm based in Kent and nearby areas that offers expert & trusted legal advice to individuals and businesses. Approximately 80% of the company’s work is for individuals and 20% is for business clients. At present, the business has 9 Partners who are a mix of equity and salaried. The business is doing very well and has a thriving Private Client division. The Department has excellent relationships with clients and works across a wide variety of private client matters that entail: Wills, Trusts, Tax Planning, Planning for Later Life, Court of Protection and Probate. Due to the current Head of Private Client for the Tunbridge Wells branch looking to move on to a slightly different career, there exists the key strategic requirement to fill this role. 

Role & Responsibilities

The Head of Private Client for the Tunbridge Wells branch is expected to be appointed at either an Associate or Senior Associate level, depending on level of experience. The successful candidate will have the following core role & responsibilities:

  • Oversee and lead the Tunbridge Wells Private Client team – the workflows, forecasts, fees, development & mentoring of staff, recruitment of new team members and general administration of the running the unit 
  • Ensure this Private Client branch is successful; achieves and exceeds targets,  grows and has very positive culture Personally run your own caseload of diverse private client work capably and competently, within areas such as wills, tax planning, trusts, estates and/or court of protection
  • Act as a primary point of contact for clients and other stakeholders, delivering great results and service for clients 
  • Be involved with company networking and marketing where appropriate
  • Demonstrate effective time management and organisation skills with the running of the team and services provided in relation to all client matters

Objective Expertise & Subjective Traits

Suitable candidates for this role are likely to have the following backgrounds:

  • A qualified self-sufficient Solicitor or Legal Executive in private client matters such as any of the following areas: wills, trusts, estates, tax/life planning and court of protection
  • Some small team management and branch leadership experience to date or a willingness to perform this role A strong communicator, able to run and grow a team and develop excellent client relationships
  • Excellent time management, organisation, commercial management and administration skills
  • STEP qualification is a ‘nice to have’
  • Determined, focused, energetic and a team player
  • Proactive, confident and professional at all times with a high degree of integrity
  • Hands on, progressive and someone that is able to challenge, improve and develop existing practices Enthusiastic outlook and charismatic with a good sense of humour 
  • Based within a sensible commute to the Tunbridge Wells office
