  The Group

  • A privately-owned British high-tech precision engineering business that designs, manufactures, and supplies a world leading range of electro-mechanical capital equipment to an international customer base. With a turnover approaching £100m, and highly profitable, the company employs over 450 people at its head office, and at its production plants based across the UK and Europe. The Group has a very strong balance sheet, is well invested, with state-of-the-art plant and equipment.  
  • The business provides after sales Services to its customers throughout the world, with a dedicated Service team based in the UK, and across its wholly owned subsidiaries in Europe and North America. With a team of over 50 engineers, the Group offers installation, breakdown, and maintenance services, as well as operator training, and machine demonstration at trade shows.  
  • Based in East Yorkshire, the head office location offers a great quality of life, and is within easy reach from York, Scarborough, Beverley, and Hull. This is a modern and fully integrated facility, with mechanical / electronic / software design, engineering, production (machine shop and assembly), and supply chain functions represented on-site.  

The Role

  • Reporting to the CEO, the After Sales Service Director will have P&L responsibility, and strategic oversight for the Service function of the Group. Setting the growth strategy, you will be responsible for coaching and mentoring the Service Management team, ensuring each office is contributing to the overall growth of the Service function.  
  • The key objectives of the new After Sales Service Director will be to double the sales of the Service business over the next three years, develop a higher-performing Service capability, and a more profitable contribution to the Group.  
  • The role is a high-profile position within the business and one of vital importance in enabling it to achieve Service excellence, and the successful candidate will be expected to take an active and important role in the Senior Leadership Team.  

The Candidate

  • This is a role for an established and effective Service Director with the necessary experience and leadership skills to join the management team of a successful multi-site international precision engineering manufacturing business that is a world leader in its field.  
  • Likely to be degree-educated, you will have experience of leading the Service function and strategy of a capital equipment engineering business of scale, with a strong technical appreciation of an environment which offers mechanical, electronic and software engineering expertise.  
  • You will be someone who ‘makes things happen’ with the relevant gravitas, drive, communications skills, and leadership qualities. Possessing exceptional ‘influencing skills’ you will understand how to improve the performance of teams that do not report directly to you, through building relationships with senior stakeholders, great coaching, and mentoring skills, and by leading from the front.
