TfL Commissioner

Transport for London
Location
London (Central), London (Greater)
Salary
Significant package commensurate with role
Closing date

A daily operation supporting 30 million passenger journeys, planning for the future needs of a world city, championing investment in London’s transport networks, creating a financially sustainable organisation, delivering on Net Zero and Healthy Streets as well as a leading affordable housing programme – just some of the responsibilities and opportunities that will face TfL’s commissioner. TfL’s goal is to create a safer, fairer, greener, healthier and more prosperous city, making the city a better place to live. You’ll make sure we do just that for the customers and users at the heart of our business.

As Commissioner, you’ll lead TfL in the delivery of a budget and business plan which sustains the capital’s economic growth into the next decade. You’ll work closely with the Mayor, government, the Police, Boroughs, business, customer and user groups and many other stakeholders to provide safe, reliable and integrated transport for Greater London.

You’ll make sure we invest in vital improvements, both on the services we provide, contract and regulate, and on any future capital and investment programmes, so as to deliver the Mayor's Transport Strategy and the Mayor's commitments, championing the bold aim for 80% of all trips in London to be made on foot, by cycle or using public transport by 2041 along the way.

To succeed, you’ll need a track record of impactful inclusive leadership and strategic management of a large and complex organisation with many thousands of employees, with directly provided services and others provided by contractors and through regulation. You should also have managed a multi-billion-pound budget and have experience in overseeing investments and operations to enhance customer experience at scale. A clear understanding of the structures of local and national government is necessary, as is a high degree of political sensitivity and the stakeholder management skills to deal with many competing issues.

Equality, diversity and inclusion

TfL are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion. We want to represent the city we serve, which will help us become a more innovative and efficient organisation. TfL’s goal is to make our recruitment as inclusive as possible. We are a disability confident employer who guarantee an interview to any disabled candidate who meets all of the essential criteria.
