This is a wonderful opportunity to lead a local lottery-funded charity as the new Chair of Trustees.

Do you have a deep interest in the power of physical activity and sport to make a positive contribution to people’s lives?

Yorkshire Sport Foundation was formed in 2011 with the joining of South Yorkshire Sport and West Yorkshire Sport. They are an independent charity that works with a wide range of local and regional organisations such as Governing Bodies of Sport, Educational Institutions, and Health & Sports Clubs. They are part of a national network of 42 Active Partnerships

Their objective is to promote and provide a well-connected system for high-quality sport and physical activity. The power of movement, physical activity, and sport can change people’s lives, bring everyone together and tackle inequalities. Their objective is to enable as many people as possible to enjoy all the benefits that being active can bring.

As Chair of Trustees, you will provide effective leadership of the Yorkshire Sport Foundation Board ensuring strong strategic direction, robust governance, and support is given to the Executive Team. You will also act as an ambassador, spokesperson, advocate and representative for Yorkshire Sport Foundation fostering a strong relationship with numerous partners and stakeholders.

We are looking for an experienced Board member with extensive senior leader skills within a charity, corporate or public sector organisation with strong financial acumen, leading people, developing strategy and organisational improvement.

You will have an understanding of a systemic approach to supporting people to be active and take part in sport. With a personal style that can motivate and inspire the confidence and respect of the board, the Yorkshire Sport Foundation team and wider network.

It is critical that you have a well-developed approach to meeting management and debate including excellent communication skills that bring out the best in Board Members and the Executive Team.

There are four formal meetings per year alongside monthly short ‘catch-up’ meetings. It is envisaged a time commitment of 1 to 2 days month will be required to carry out the role effectively and this will differ throughout the year. This is a very attractive opportunity to work with a strong and engaged Board of Trustees, with the opportunity to contribute so much to local communities across Yorkshire.
