Our client is a market leading manufacturer of fabricated, welded and mechanically assembled products with two key strategic sites based in the UK. They are part of a market-leading pan European manufacturing group with multiple sites based across the UK and Europe. Working as part of the senior leadership team the Operations Director position is a senior level appointment, in which you will assume Operations responsibility for one of their key product value streams with two sites in the UK (West Mids & North West).

Applicants are invited from a wide range of engineering manufacturing backgrounds, but must have experience of managing production within a made to order, fast paced and high-volume engineering manufacturing environment, in which continuous improvement and lean manufacturing techniques are at the heart of what you do.

Key points in terms of responsibility:

2 Factories (x1 Manchester, x 1 West Midlands
Headcount - Circa 6 direct, 100 indirect
Business turnover - £22-25m per annum
The positions report in to the Divisional MD
Key responsibilities within Operations Director position:

The strategic development of manufacturing operations across two manufacturing sites driving OTIF
The development and promotion of lean manufacturing techniques, such as 5s, VSM, OEE etc, across manufacturing operations
People Management, including the motivation and mentoring of managers to effectively problem solve and develop their careers
Implementation and adherence to health and safety standards, and ISO quality systems
Working closely with existing operations managers and other key stakeholders, you will be required to demonstrate an ability to introduce process/procedures across our clients' factories which enhance manufacturing output and support the delivery of EBITDA objectives over the next 3 years.
The Operations Director will be responsible for leading the development of an agile, positive, ambitious manufacturing function which has the skills, resources, and capability to become a key enabler of growth, development, and improved business performance over the next 3 years.
Factory 1 Automated factory running multiple shift patterns and manufacturing significant volumes per week. Additionally, there is a significant assembly function which supports production. Future investment in additional machinery will further enhance the levels of automation and support the future balancing of production activity between the two sites.
Factory 2 -a much more manual-based production process with significant assembly capabilities. Led by a small team comprising: Operations Manager, HSQE Manager, Factory Manager, and shopfloor supervisors. Plus, logistics and warehousing operations.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE OPERATIONS DIRECTOR

Previous experience within a senior level position, e.g. Operations Director, Operations Manager, General Manager etc.
Leadership and people management skills with the ability to build, motivate, develop and improve teams.
Significant experience of managing in a large engineering manufacturing/production environment
Experience within a fast-paced engineering manufacturing environment, implementing continuous improvement tools and techniques, including ERP/MRP systems, SOPs and problem-solving techniques
A manufacturing professional who can work closely with key members of production teams pushing where required, being robust with colleagues where necessary, leading from the front, but being prepared to be involved in the day-to-day activities of the shopfloor if this is necessary to achieve enhanced results.
Ideally degree qualified or commensurate experience
