Reporting to the Chief Sustainability Officer, this is an exciting in-house delivery focused opportunity to drive decarbonisation within a FTSE 250 plc.

The successful incumbent will be responsible for refining and delivering the business' net zero carbon commitments which includes a strong emphasis on decarbonisation of a large fleet of vehicles.

We're looking to hear from commercially and financially astute individuals who have a track record of delivery of large programmes of work. You'll have a track record of developing business cases to secure capital funding/investment/grants, budgeting, managing financial risks and developing a forward delivery plan as you oversee existing and new projects to deliver the decarbonisation programme in multiple concurrent locations.

This is a highly impactful and challenging role where you will be leading the decarbonisation team and their programme of work. Some experience of EV charge points, E-mobility and battery energy storage/flexibility more generally is highly desirable as you'll be overseeing the procurement of vehicles and the underlying infrastructure delivery and associated preparatory works and partnerships eg securing power connections from DNOs and consents from local planning authorities. This will include the implementation of energy and charger management systems, refinement of battery leasing optioneering and agreed models, the identification, appointment and management of best-fit suppliers, partners and consultants and have overall responsibility for the operational success of the decarbonisation of a large fleet of vehicles.

Commerciality is at the forefront of this role - you will be identifying and developing commercial opportunities from decarbonisation (to include third party vehicle charging) and embed decarbonisation within work-winning and business development teams, supporting commercial offerings and contractual negotiations with the public and private sector as they relate to sustainability.

You will represent the business as the focal point for its decarbonisation interests in a complex regulatory, political, and competitive environment, leading senior engagement with key stakeholders including government, investors, local and national partners and beyond.

You will work with teams across Engineering, HR and Strategic Change to address skills gaps to support the company's zero-emissions transformation, and help develop a pipeline of talent for the future.

Applicants must have previous decarbonisation experience in a leadership role, with a demonstrable track record of delivering results by leading through influence and delivering through collaboration and be able to demonstrate responsibility for managing budgets and revenue generation, and a strong commercial/financial acumen. You will have experience of successfully deploying a strategic change/transformation programme and delivering at pace, have a proven ability to influence, engage and build advocacy with stakeholders and be a credible subject matter expertise on key decarbonisation issues, including climate change, air quality, safety, diversity and inclusion, business ethics, social value, community engagement, circularity, environmental stewardship.
