Description
As the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, you will develop the company's manufacturing systems, processes, budgets, equipment investment and lean culture. You will be implementing lean manufacturing/continuous improvement tools and techniques in order to reduce costs and reduce waste in all areas of the process.
Key Responsibilities:
- To strategically structure, plan, implement and sustain the business manufacturing facilities and competitive capabilities.
- To define the manufacturing engineering departmental plans, targets, timescales, and resources.
- Measuring, maintaining, reporting, and acting upon key performance indicators both within the team, the manufacturing cells, and facility.
- Develop hands-on analysis, problem-solving and improvement of all production processes, methods and engineering specifications.
- Control and develop the site layout plans and value streams layout / organisation / standardisation plans.
- Define and manage the process for updating standard manufacturing times, BOMs, Resources, Processes, and Work Instructions / SOPs.
- Support the reduction in overall manufacturing costs through best practice standardisation and operational development.
- Structure, manage, coach and audit the Manufacturing Engineering team through the deployment of lean management principles, to address part and process issues and reduces costs.
- Improve lean Manufacturing knowledge across the site, through structured training, mentoring, support, and deployment of lean tools and techniques in all disciplines / departments linked to the manufacture of the products.
- Ownership and project management of all new manufacturing capital equipment requirements, specifications, justification, installation, TPM, Spares, commissioning, training, and
- Material cost reduction, through design for manufacture assessment and reporting. Liaison and review with design / engineering and suppliers to engineer cost out of component supply.
- Culture development and training in alignment with new methods/practices introduced.
- Develop the use of lean principles to ensure the team deliver sustainable improvements in process efficiency, standardisation and cost down projects
- Provide leadership for the team to drive improvements in overall site manufacturing utilisation through effective use of manufacturing and storage space to support increased capacity requirements in line with growth targets for the site.
- Facilitate practices needed to achieve excellent housekeeping organisation standards through 5S.
Profile
This role is suited to a Project/Manufacturing Engineering Manager from a multi-component manufacturing & assembly background (ideally automotive or aerospace). The successful applicant will also have:
- Capex project or NPI exposure
- Excellent understanding of Kaizen/lean/Six Sigma/DMAIC problem resolution techniques
- Understanding of costing models, standard costing methods and time study techniques
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, including a good level of presentation skills (verbal and written)
- Excellent management skills, including the ability to act as a coach to the team and provide encouragement and support
