This is an opportunity to really make a difference, help shape and develop City & Guilds by supporting the CEO and the Executive team to reach sound strategic corporate decisions.
We are looking for two Trustees to join the Board, one of which should bring a depth and breadth of financial experience, working at senior management/Leadership level in a commercial financial services environment, such as investment banking.
The other Trustee would ideally have experience in technological and digital transformation and delivery in fast-changing, agile and innovative commercial environments.
Both trustees will help ensure that City & Guilds reach their charitable objectives whilst remaining financially robust and putting the charity’s best interest at heart. As a Trustee, you will have the opportunity to shape the work of City & Guilds at the highest level and will have a direct impact on our ability to deliver our purpose.
Trustees will be expected to spend the equivalent of two/three days a month on City & Guilds work.

About The Role
The Trustee Board’s primary responsibility is ensuring that City & Guilds pursues its charitable objectives and that it remains financially robust. Trustees must be fully committed to the purpose of City & Guilds and the positive impact it can make to individuals, businesses and economies.
You will be expected to think strategically about the future for City & Guilds, ensuring that we remain solvent and financially robust and identifying and managing risks. Some activities may involve scrutinising board and committee papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues affecting City & Guilds, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives and other issues in which the Trustee has experience.
The role requires the Trustee to spend the equivalent of two/three days a month on City & Guilds work after induction and will need to attend scheduled formal board meetings, committee meetings, yearly and bi-annual council meetings and other adhoc meetings.
About You
It is essential that you have excellent communication skills, unquestioned integrity, good humour and intellectual versatility. As a Trustee, you will have the ability to consider and constructively challenge the performance, strategy and objectives of City & Guilds.
Trustees will have a strong track record of achievements in environments that are changing their business models through disruptive innovation strategies. Whilst not essential, we would like you to have experience of working with charities or other not-for-profit organisations.
One of the Trustees will need to have senior leadership experience within commercial financial services, investment banking organisations of scale. They will need to have experience within the investment banking function (M&A) and of different ownership models which support investment. In addition they will need have a proven record of achievements in environments that are changing their business models through innovative strategies.
The other Trustee will again have experience at senior leadership level within a commercial organisation at scale but will need a track record of delivering transformational change to business processes and/or technologies. This Trustee will likely have worked as a COO/CDO/CPO or equivalent. Again they will need to have a proven track record of achievements in environments that are changing their industries through strategies.
