Exciting opportunity to join the Board as Finance Director of this privately owned multi-award winning and highly accredited niche manufacturer. With strong year on year growth and an impressive future pipeline confirmed, this medium sized entrepreneurial business has an excellent reputation built on quality, innovation and depth of relationships. Employing c200 people from their head office in Suffolk, the business continues to deliver a rich heritage of work in London with further opportunity being explored across the UK.
 
This pivotal board role reports to the Managing Director, collaborating with fellow Directors to develop and deliver clear commercial strategies for profitable growth. You will provide financial advice into wider plans and objectives, drive continuous improvement and promote improved financial awareness and accountability across the company. With oversight of all aspects of the company’s finances from managing day to day transactions, insurances, IT and statutory reporting, you will coach and develop a small team in Finance and IT to deliver excellent operations. We are looking for a professionally qualified senior finance professional with excellent all-round accounting knowledge, who is as equally comfortable and effective developing strategic plans as they are being hands on in accounts production. Aligned to the culture and values of the business, you will have developed strong commercial acumen, be skilled and confident in stakeholder management and have proven ability in developing high performing, motivated teams. 
 
Overview of duties and responsibilities:
  • Influence, shape and lead the strategic direction of the department delivering clear and insightful financial reporting to the leadership team to drive performance and decision making
  • Production of monthly management accounts for presentation to the wider board, bank and external accountants
  • Preparation of budgets and forecasts based on the Company’s current and expected performance
  • Work closely with commercial departments on pricing and contract profitability
  • Management of cash position and working capital
  • Manage the finance team in preparation of the annual statutory accounts and liaise with external auditors
  • Ensure processes and technology adapts, changes and improves in line with business needs
  • Lead company secretarial function
  • Lead by example, promoting a positive culture that reflects the business as an employer of choice and helps it meet annual objectives
 
Skills and Attributes required:
  • Professionally qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA)
  • Commercially astute, robust and forward-thinking with previous experience of working at board level within an owner led, medium sized entrepreneurial business
  • An engaged and hands-on leader, aligned to the ambitions and work ethic of the leadership team
  • Credibility and gravitas to influence at board level
  • Strong emotional intelligence, with the ability to appropriately challenge and be challenged
  • Background in manufacturing/construction/engineering would be beneficial although not essential
  • Strong IT skills
