In a post-EU world, our trade and investment statistics have never been more important.I am delighted that you are interested in joining our team as Deputy Director of Global Trade and Investment (GTI), Deputy Director of Public Sector or Deputy Director of Economic and Microdata Insights in the Macroeconomic & Environment Statistics and Analysis Directorate, part of the Economic Statistics & Environment Group.

We are seeking inspirational leaders and creative problem solvers, with strong analytical and strategic skills, demonstrated experience in senior stakeholder engagement, and team players who can work with colleagues within and outside of ONS to succeed.

Deputy Director, Global Trade and Investment Division

The Global Trade and Investment (GTI) Division employs around 70 staff and is part of the Macroeconomic and Environment Statistics and Analysis (MESA) Directorate.  

The division is responsible for the UK’s international economic statistics, covering both the regular production of statistical outputs to the highest standards at the same time as a programme of work to improve the underlying methods used in producing them.  Alongside this the division works closely with other government departments as well as external stakeholders to produce analysis and insights into what is driving trends in the UK’s patterns of trade and international investment.  

The Division produce the monthly UK Trade release, the quarterly Balance of Payments release, the annual Pink Book and a range of other data, statistics and analysis including on Foreign Direct Investment. The team also contributes to the production of the wider National Accounts.
