Job Details

Location: The role can be based at any of the Heritage Fund offices in the UK - London, Exeter, Birmingham, Nottingham, Cambridge, Leeds, Newcastle, Manchester, Edinburgh, Belfast, Cardiff. Regular travel to London and to other offices across the UK will be required, as will visits to stakeholder organisations and project site visits.

Hybrid working: Staff are expected to work from their contracted Heritage Fund office at least twice a week. Time spent on site visits to projects or meetings at another Heritage Fund or external office are counted as part of those two days. Employees may work from home for the remaining days.

We are now recruiting for a new Executive Director “Business Services”. “Business Services” provide the key corporate service functions across the Fund and the core foundation on which the organisation depends. As a central member of the Fund’s Executive Team and senior leadership body, with responsibility for leading a dynamic multifunctional portfolio including Finance, HR, Legal and Governance, and IT and Estates; this  critical and senior role will support the Chief Executive and other Executive Directors of the Fund to ensure that the Heritage Fund is fit for purpose and able to respond at pace to the wider challenges and opportunities in the sector.  This is an exciting opportunity to make a real contribution to UK heritage and to work with some of the most unique and inspiring heritage sites across the UK. Key priorities of the role include supporting the leadership of the organisation and the delivery of our people strategy, the implementation and delivery of our new funding Strategy, continued business improvement and supporting the delivery of our new Investment Management System (IMS) which is the grant management tool which will underpin our operations and core data functions.

Furthermore, the Executive Director Business Services will;

  • Act as the Chief Executive’s and Accounting Officer’s principal adviser on all questions of financial planning and management and attend Board of Trustees meetings and Audit and Risk Committee meetings; Drive high performance and effectiveness by attracting, retaining and developing a diverse and engaged body of staff with the required knowledge, talents and values; Oversee all legal and governance activities to ensure organisational compliance and the effective delivery of governance functions; Manage and deliver the Estate strategy, delivering a safe, efficient, fit for-purpose and sustainable estate for the workforce; Lead the delivery of technology and innovation for value adding solutions to enable the effective delivery of operational and strategic goals.

The successful candidate must be a professionally qualified accountant with proven experience operating at a similar level within a complex organisation with significant public and government accountability. With demonstrable knowledge of government accounting, you will be an exceptional and inspiring leader with experience of driving improved performance across multiple disciplines. You will possess excellent communication skills, the ability to win the confidence of the Chief Executive, Board members and senior stakeholders, and be able to challenge and innovate. It’s imperative that you embody the Values of the National Lottery Heritage Fund and inspire colleagues to live our values and demonstrate the behaviours which bring them to life.
