In recent years the company has refined its strategy to focus on three major sectors; its property business (comprising an industrial, commercial, retail and residential investment property portfolio), its hospitality business (comprising a chain of operated hotels and restaurant chains) and its logistics business (comprising national liner and projects shipping, towage and salvage, stevedoring and transport).

The company is listed on both the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) and Papua New Guinea National Stock Exchange (PNGX), however, is majority owned by John Swire & Sons Ltd (www.swire.com), for whom it plays a key role within their wider portfolio.  Finance professionals with Steamships Trading Company have gone on to work with Swire businesses in Asia, N.
