Director of Operations – The Goldsmiths’ Company – London - c£110,000
The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, more commonly known as the Goldsmiths' Company, is one of the Twelve Great Livery Companies of the City of London and received its first royal charter in 1327. The purpose of the Goldsmiths' Company is to contribute to national life by supporting craftspeople, protecting consumers and working with charitable partners to help people improve their lives.
The Role
The Company has an ambitious agenda and needs to operate and deliver to maximum effect as it approaches its 700th anniversary in 2027; It wishes to strengthen the SMT to enable it to do this. A key element in this strengthening exercise is a decision to appoint a Director of Operations who can take on oversight in support of the CEO/Clerk of the corporate and strategic planning and delivery process, providing central, hands-on oversight and coordination as a key member of the Senior Management Team.
The Candidate
The Director of Operations will need to offer excellent strategic vision, teamworking, operational, budget management and project oversight skills and experience. The success of the individual in this position will be determined by their ability to:
- Manage complex internal and external relationships;
- Gain and retain the confidence of the Court of Assistants (the non-executive Board-equivalent of the Company), the Court of Wardens (the non-executive sub-committee of the Court of Assistants that oversees the operational work of the Executive), the Directors of the Goldsmiths’ Company Charity; and other colleagues;
- Lead with enthusiasm and work well with others in ensuring that the Company puts in place and operates efficient and effective planning, coordination, process administration, delivery and management information structures that result in the Company and its related entities - the London Assay Office (within the Company); The Goldsmiths’ Company Charity; and The Goldsmiths’ Centre - achieving their respective objectives in the most effective and coordinated way.
