Head of Data Science / Lead Data Scientist required by Global Insurance company. Remaining very much in a hands-on capacity from a Lead Data Programming, Statistical / Data Modelling capacity you will assume line management duties of the team comprised of 3 Data Scientists and have ultimate responsibility for helping insurance product teams understand their data and drive output across multiple products.

Working as the Lead Data Scientist you will lead the team from a hands-on line management perspective and be heavily involved throughout all parts of the data science project life cycle from design and architecture through programming and data engineering (data modelling, statistical data analytics, predictive analytics, ETL etc). The primary goal of the team will be to build predictive models and analytic solutions to support the underwriting function on a global basis.

As the Head of Data Science / Lead Data Scientist you will engage with multiple stakeholders including underwriters, insurance product line managers and actuaries (pricing) to both identify profitable growth areas and optimize portfolio performance.

Working independently you will lead the extraction and manipulation of data using data management techniques and tools from both internal and external sources. You will undertake text mining (potentially) and data mining techniques and perform statistical analysis and multivariate procedures using Data Science programming methods and tools including R, Python, SAS, SQL programming. You will present findings to senior level stakeholders and then work to develop data models and solutions into production across multiple departments. Working with large data sets across multiple sources from within the business and its subsidiaries you will develop advanced data analysis techniques, customised modelling solutions and leverage Big Data from a data science perspective and feed these analytical capabilities into the ongoing development of systems for the business worldwide.

We are searching for a Head of Data Science / Lead Data Scientist who whilst capable of leading and managing a small team can remain a hands-on Data Scientist comfortable with all contemporary data science languages inc R, Python and SQL. You will have led a small team at least and have demonstrable line management experience. This experience will be combined with an in-depth knowledge of data modelling, predictive analytics and multivariate procedures. Any experience in text mining, machine learning and natural language processing, AI etc would be highly beneficial but non-essential. You will be comfortable engaging with senior level stakeholders as well as presenting to them to develop solutions as required. Experience gained within the Insurance / Reinsurance sector highly desirable but non-essential; experience gained with Financial Services or related sectors preferrable. Degree level education sought; excellent communication skills pre-requisite.
