Job Details

The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth (DCEDIY) deals with policy and service developments relating to a number of very important groups in society. It seeks to co-ordinate and develop key actions across Government relating to children and young people. 

 

The Adoption, Mother and Baby Homes and Research Division is responsible for developing policy and legislation in the area of adoption and for leading the Government response to the final report of the Commission of Investigation into Mother and Baby Homes. This includes driving implementation of the Government’s Action Plan for Survivors and Former Residents of Mother and Baby and County Home Institutions, development of the Mother and Baby Institutions Payment Scheme, responsibility for the Birth Information and Tracing Act 2022, and the Institutional Burials Act 2022, which enables intervention at the site of the former Mother and Baby institution in Tuam and any other comparable site. 

 

The Role

 

In accordance with the Institutional Burials Act 2022, the Director of Authorised Intervention, Tuam, will:

 

  • manage and control generally the staff, administration and business of the

Office

 

  • identify and engage the expertise required to assist in performing their functions obtain any necessary consents for the carrying out of works arrange for the forensic excavation and recovery of human remains buried at the Tuam site arrange for the post-recovery analysis of human remains arrange for the carrying out of remedial works to the land on completion of the recovery of remains undertake an Identification Programme make final arrangements for human remains recovered provide regular updates to relatives of the deceased, other stakeholders and the public consult with an Advisory Board at regular intervals

 

 

The successful candidate will:

 

  • have a proven career as a leader and senior manager in either public or private sector organisations
  • provide evidence of extensive experience in public engagement including consultation with civil society organisations or groups
  • be an effective communicator and have a successful record in managing multiple stakeholders in a challenging and sensitive environment
  • have significant senior level project management experience in carrying out large-scale projects with multiple strands of activities
  • experience of managing large-scale tendering processes and managing large procurement contracts
