Engineering Director Required by my client a well respected and award winning company in the marine world. As the Engineering Director you will report to the Chief Technology Officer and help take there growing engineering department to the next level. You will lead a department of specialist engineers based in Cornwall

The department is responsible for the engineering design, test and productisation of marine-based power generation, electric and hybrid drive products.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Implement a vision for the organisation by leading and evolving the engineering strategy
  • Drive technical excellence in the engineering team through strong leadership
  • Build and strengthen my clients strong engineering culture
  • Drive leadership and personal improvement programs for engineering staff.
  • Own the product design review process with cross-functional stakeholders before release to manufacture.
  • Working closely with engineering staff to produce mechanical designs including drive trains, mounting hardware, electronics systems, test equipment and production jigs and fixtures.
  • Liaise with production and quality teams to take products into full scale production.
  • Complete assembly, installation and test activities on R&D and production projects.
  • Contribute to hazard analysis and risk assessment exercises. Ensuring that all workshop activities, installations, and support activities are completed to a risk assessment, taking ownership in the creation and maintenance of the risk assessment and HSE related equipment.
  • Help to improve quality control, yield and quality assurance processes
  • Use CAE design tools such as SolidWorks to produce engineering information, such as 3D models, assembly drawings and detailed manufacturing drawings.
  • Apply geometric tolerances and dimensions in the production of detailed manufacturing information.
  • Use simulation, analysis and hand calculations to verify mechanical engineering designs.
  • Prepare, maintain and update engineering drawings, schematics and test plans, test reports, installation instructions and documentations on projects.
  • Assist with the training of junior/apprentice level staff.
  • Occasional travel will be required.

Core skills required include:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in the field of mechanical engineering (or equivalent)
  • You have a data-driven, evidence-based, and transparent approach to making decisions
  • Technically exceptional and can challenge Technical Leads on key decisions where appropriate.
  • Experience of mentoring and supporting engineering leaders and teams, fostering great engineering practices
