QLM Technology Ltd (QLM) make one of the world’s leading light detection and ranging (Lidar) cameras for detecting methane and other greenhouse gases. Established in 2017; they have enjoyed rapid growth and following fresh investment are continuing to scale. Using C++ and AWS Cloud Services, you will lead an embedded software team, tasked with developing algorithms, applications, controls, APIs, interfaces, networks, analytics, and deployment processes.
Their internet-of-things devices stream data and imagery into the cloud which is transformed through analytics into actionable information. With the UK’s goal of reaching net zero by 2050 QLMs products can change the future, for the better. They are now seeking an outstanding Head of Software Development to help them further develop their software and firmware for their products as they are deployed to their customers.
The Role
Reporting to the CEO, as Head of Software you will lead the team that defines, documents, deploys and ‘owns’ the software and firmware.
This is a true full-stack role and key responsibilities include:
- Working with internal teams to design and architect new customer features and scale deployment of cloud-connected devices. Rapidly develop and deploy new product features in a fast-turn iteration and improvement process whilst adhering to continuous improvement practices to produce a stable and robust product.
- Software engineering of modern C++ Software on the camera itself plus software development of C++ cloud analytics.
- IT Budget Holder who owns strategy to evolve new software concepts into customer-ready applications for secure networked operations whilst helping to recruit a world-class software and analytics team
The Candidate
You will have a proven track record of managing products at all stages of the development lifecycle. Your experience and skills will include:
- Track Record – We are looking for applicants with proven previous experience with networking and applications, ideally with an Industrial or manufacturing setting. Experience working with camera and security systems or Lidar in the past would be helpful but not essential.
- Software Skills – experience developing across a full stack including client/server interaction, databases, and CI/CD Infrastructure. Knowledge of Linux, networking protocols and C/C++ development. Experience with Python, Modern SQL/NoSQL and proven familiarity with Confluence, Jira, Git, Docker, Jenkins.
- Cloud & Web Development - Strong understanding of modern deployment and development infrastructure, function and end-to-end testing and cloud/enterprise deployment. Understanding of AWS Cloud services and web development.
Additional Details
This role can be based anywhere in the UK with occasional international travel. There will be a degree of office time required in either Bristol or Cardiff as this is a visible role for QLM, however hybrid home working is fully supported.
