The Financial Ombudsman Service (the Service) is transforming the way it manages its casework.  Bringing down customer waiting times and backlogs is at the forefront of the Financial Ombudsman Service’s casework plans for this year, and the Board has been clear in setting out its expectations for improvement. As part of this transformation, the Financial Ombudsman Service is restructuring its senior leadership team, which includes creating four Ombudsman Director roles.

The purpose of the Ombudsman Director role is to ensure that our decisions are made fairly, impartially and consistently, whilst achieving our productivity and efficiency objectives. They will develop policy and a supporting knowledge framework, assuring the quality of casework, and managing the casework teams and operational budget for the product area(s) within their vertical’s remit.

Reporting to the Deputy Chief Ombudsman, this is an opportunity to play a significant strategic and operational role at a time of fundamental change, where the demands and expectations of us are high.  As an experienced strategic leader, the Ombudsman Director will be responsible and accountable for driving all the strategic, financial, operational, people leadership and risk management aspects of the product area(s) in line with the Service’s objectives, as well as working collaboratively with peers to deliver across the Service.

The successful candidate will be an experienced strategic leader with demonstrable experience building high performing teams.  They will have strong senior stakeholder management skills and the ability to influence others.  They will be an experienced change manager, with a demonstrable track record of delivering tangible results.  Senior industry experience i.e. working within a financial services organisation may be helpful.
