My Space Housing Solutions provides Specialised Supported Housing to some of the most vulnerable people in society, supporting and enabling them to live independently.

We put people at the heart of everything we do, and are unique in that we provide housing when all other opportunities have been exhausted. We lead the way in improving lives, creating opportunities and supporting people to achieve great things

Our approach means vulnerable people can live in good homes with the necessary support, but also puts them on the path to improving their wellbeing, integrating with their communities and living independently.

Purpose of the role

To work constructively with other Board Members and My Space employees to achieve excellent standards of governance and to ensure that the objectives of My Space are achieved.That My Space is managed and controlled appropriately and maintains its financial viability; is accountable to its stakeholders; and that My Space works within the requirements of the law, regulation and its funding bodies.

To act in the best interests of the Board and My Space at all times.

Overall Responsibilities

Setting and ensuring compliance with the values, mission and strategic objectives of My Space, ensuring its long-term success

Setting a positive culture with a strong customer focus

Providing oversight, direction and constructive challenge to My Spaces Chief Executive and executive team

The appointment and, if necessary, dismissal of the Chief Executive

Being satisfied as to the integrity of financial information, approving each years budget, financial plan and annual accounts prior to publications

Establishing, overseeing and reviewing frameworks: Delegation and systems of internal control, Statutory and regulatory compliance and Risk management and assurance

Establish policies to achieve My Space plans and objectives.

To promote the accountability of My Space through openness and work in partnership with communities, representative bodies and strategic authorities / agencies.

To work collectively with other Board Members to ensure that the Board fulfils its role under the current Terms of Reference.

Participating in an individual performance appraisal and in Board effectiveness reviews

Please note the Board Members may be required to serve on or chair a Board Committee or working group, relevant to their skills and experience. Board Members may also be required, from time to time, to participate in employment functions such as the appraisal of Executive Team members and appeals committees.

Knowledge:

A strong awareness of the key requirements of delivering effective governance

Experience in a financial background

Good understanding of the social, economic and political environment in which My Space operates.

Strategic leadership and business planning experience (including objective setting and performance monitoring) in an organisation of at least a comparable size to My Space)

Experience of risk-based decision making at a senior level

Experience of business change, growth and development at a senior level

Knowledge and experience of one or more of the following areas:

Strategic development and oversight including setting vision and values

Financial management, business planning, budgets and/or accounting

Treasury and investment management

Risk management

Governance, compliance and regulated sectors (public/private)

Legal and statutory responsibilities of a board

Community, partnership and service user accountability and engagement

Housing or commercial development

Development finance and strategic land acquisition and development

Commercial or property maintenance and asset management

Housing and community management

Supported housing operation and commissioning

Specialised supported housing criteria

Active involvement in driving innovation of service delivery for vulnerable people

Strategic IT development and implementation

Data management and insight analysis

Strategic customer service development including analysis of customer journeys and measurement of customer experience

Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of Board membership

Capacity:

Sufficient time to fulfil the role, undertake training, engage with regular appraisals and have flexibility to deal with unforeseen situations.

No significant actual or perceived conflict of interest with the work of My Space.
