The vision of King’s is unashamedly to make the world a better place.  Since its foundation in 1829, countless numbers of students and staff of King’s have dedicated themselves to the service of society.

The fourth oldest university in England and based in the heart of London, King’s College London is research-led, ranking as one of the world’s top 40 universities (QS World University Rankings, 2022). It has over 42,000 students (including more than 19,000 postgraduates) from some 150 countries and over 12,000 members of staff.  King’s provides world-class teaching and cutting-edge research.  The university is among the top UK universities for research earnings and has an overall annual income of more than £1bn.

The Council of King’s College London seeks to appoint an independent member of Council to serve as Honorary Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee, to take office in January 2023.  As King’s looks to its 200th anniversary in 2029, this will be a stimulating, challenging and rewarding time to join Council, helping secure the College’s position as one of the world’s finest universities, acting in the service of society.

The Finance Committee, chaired by the Honorary Treasurer, is responsible for formulating policies for and overseeing the effective management and control of the financial affairs of the College.

Candidates will have substantial relevant board experience with well-honed financial acumen, perhaps with a relevant professional qualification (e.g., ACA/MBA) and senior executive and operational experience gained in an appropriately complex and large-scale organisation.

Candidates will have experience of shaping strategy and reviewing performance.  They will have well developed commercial and operational acumen, including the ability to understand and challenge financial information.  Previous experience of higher education, government department/agency, large charity, cultural organisation or NDPB is considered valuable but not essential.  More importantly, they will have affinity with higher education, research and innovation, and empathy with the vision and values of the College.

King’s College London is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and through this appointment process it is the Council’s clear stated aim to develop candidate pools that include applicants from all backgrounds and communities.  The University particularly welcomes applications from women, people from black and minority ethnic communities, the LGBTQ+ community and from disabled people.
