Head of Technology

My high profile marketing client is searching for an exceptional Head of Technology. You will inherit a semi-mature product development team with the goal of taking them to the next level. You will foster cohesive and strategic projects across a team of 25+ people encompassing engineering, IT, business analysis, QA and operations. This role isn't hands-on, but you should be comfortable getting hands-on with code and the details of technical decisions from an architectural perspective and should be technically strong enough to command the respect of your teams.

It is really important that you have experience in doing a 50/50 split role between management experience (of at least 20 people) and technical skills. Ideally you will be able to read and understand PHP.

You will take the lead and deliver a service of the highest quality, with a proven track record devising, directing, and mentoring across their previous initiatives.Key Responsibilities include:Lead the technology team to continue the planning, development and implementation of the roadmap, including timely decommissioning of the legacy systems and the creation and transition to a sustainable architecture, based on best practice.

Own the planning and prioritising of resources across the Technology team to ensure aneffective balance between tech transformation, BAU project delivery and ongoing maintenance and support of platforms and services

Work collaboratively with the stakeholders, where relevant, at all levels across the organisation to ensure that technology services and products are customer-led, cost- effective, scalable, easy to use and meet current and future needs

Provide overall technical leadership and direction to the organisation and the technology team, encouraging controlled innovation and improvement in the technology and data systems, processes and ways of working

You will need:
  • 15+ years of experience with a 4+ years in a management position
  • Previous experience in a senior software engineering role (preferably architect level)
  • A track record of running a technology organisation of 20+ people
  • A track record of building and scaling high functioning technology organisations
  • A track record of developing technology strategies aligned with business objectives and following through with exceptional planning and tactical execution
  • Still remains hands-on with technology on some level
  • Able to identify gaps, weaknesses and risks on all levels of the technology organisation and plan and mitigate accordingly so that it remains robust and able to deliver in the face of change
