The Company

  • One of the premier construction materials groups in the UK, which is at the forefront of driving green construction and decarbonising the built environment. With over 300 sites and around 3,700 employees, it has a leading position in each of its businesses: Cement, Aggregates, Readymix Concrete, Asphalt, and Concrete Products.
  • Part of a global group that is one of the most ambitious companies in its sector in terms of emissions reductions, with a highly visible and credible sustainability strategy and leadership team. Intent on reinventing how the world builds, by leading the way with carbon neutral and circular building solutions.
  • A key division in the UK group, our client is a manufacturer and supplier of specialist construction materials to a national and regional customer base, evolving from a silo’d and internally facing division into a profit-led business.

  The Role

  • Reporting to the MD, you will have P&L responsibility for the division’s largest region, with annual sales of £90m and 24 production sites, with overall accountability for employees across its Commercial and Operational functions.
  • A business undergoing a strategic and cultural transformation, this is a dynamic and fast-moving environment, with both national and regional competitors.
  • This is an opportunity for the company to strengthen its leadership team, and provide a long-term career path for the right individual – be that in a senior functional or business leadership role, in the UK or internationally.

The Candidate

  • This is a role for an established and ambitious general manager, with the necessary experience and leadership skills to lead, transform, and develop a business of scale. Most likely degree-educated, you will ideally have experience of leading a related manufacturing organisation, with a strong commercial track record from within a relevant process industries environment.
  • Whilst knowledge of the building materials sector would be helpful, the company will also consider experience within related industrial sectors such as chemicals, FMCG manufacturing, and the wider building products environment – particularly where there is complexity around the business model and a number of geographically dispersed teams and businesses.
  • You will be someone who makes things happen, with the necessary drive, communications skills, and leadership qualities. Importantly, you will have the capability and desire to grow into larger roles in the future.
