Head of Facilities and Workplace Improvements | 6 months | Inside IR35 | Day rate - up to GBP470

Harvey Nash's public sector client are currently looking to recruit a Head of Facilities and Workplace Improvements to join their team for a 6 month period. The client is based in Edinburgh and the role will be based on client site. The successful candidate will play a leading role in identifying and leading on changes needed to meet service requirements across a complex and multi user estate to ensure appropriate public services support, delivery of controlled environments as well as working towards a net zero, inclusive and efficient estate. You will have extensive relevant experience including a strong background in service delivery, managing competing user building requirements within a similar estate and organisational needs.

Main Duties:

  • To provide strategic leadership, management and direction for the delivery of hard and soft facilities management services provision, including PPM, waste management, cleaning, energy and environment management (including specialist archive environments) to ensure a compliant, fit for purpose and progressive estate which meets client business requirements and best practice.
  • Oversee and direct the operational planning for client estates, including business continuity, out of hours incident management response physical security services.
  • Support the Estates Programme Director in the management of health and safety, and fire safety management policies across the client's built estate, providing assurance and direction of responsibilities as required. Ensure sufficient resources, training, and processes are in place to deliver.
  • Responsibility for the forecasting and management of the allocated estates and facilities budget ensuring strong controls and reporting for reactive and planned spend within the areas of responsibility noted.
  • Implement a programme of continuous improvement on service delivery while addressing sustainability, equality, compliance and organisational objectives
  • Lead on the contract management and tendering planning for outsourced Facilities Management services ensuring continuous improvement and that contracts deliver against KPI's and SLA's.
  • Work closely with Head of Estates Portfolio to provide facilities and operations support for project delivery and forward plan of improvement projects alongside identifying areas for investment.
  • Identify and lead on recruitment to ensure the facilities and workplace improvements team are fully and appropriately resourced and provide line management for key senior management roles supporting managers, agreeing clear objectives and training needs.

Essential Skills:

  • Exceptional technical and managerial experience of facilities management and operational support functions with evidence of continuing professional development relevant to the role including knowledge of workplace health and safety legislation and emerging trends on future ways of working.
  • Strong financial and contract management background, with ability to forecast and manage budgets, alongside excellent asset information management planning skills and use of technology in monitoring and improving facility services.
  • Proven experience of successfully leading continuous process improvement, including reviewing processes, systems and procedures to achieve efficiency, value for money and customer satisfaction while delivering against users, organisational and business requirements.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, with a track record in identifying and developing facilities and estates team capability and performance while providing assurance reporting and business cases to support change.
  • A degree in a relevant discipline, eg engineering, estates or facilities management or recognised industry qualification and membership of a relevant professional body with significant post qualification experience in a similar role
