The Land Trust is a charity that is committed to the long-term sustainable management of open space for community benefit. Your vision is to improve the quality of people’s lives by creating sustainable, high quality green spaces that deliver environmental, social and economic benefits.

Currently the Land Trust has an endowment of £180m and owns and manages around 6000 acres of land around the Country. The Trust works with both the private and public sectors and solves some of the challenges faced by the commercial or public sector who own land which is not suitable for development and provide management solutions for it to be public open space and green infrastructure.

The charity is passionate about the long-term management and investment in public open spaces, and the benefits that well managed land can bring to an area, including economic uplift; community, social and health benefits; educational opportunities and enhancing biodiversity and the wider environment. Place making and the building of communities is at the heart of the Trust.

The charity has great ambition, and the next CEO will lead a dedicated team of around forty, and work with a highly able board in realising the potential for the charity to grow even further.

The Role

• To be responsible to the Board for the vision, strategic direction, effective leadership, development and performance of the Land Trust; holding executive responsibility for all its operations and strategic plans.

• To raise the profile of the Land Trust so it is widely recognised and respected as a leading voice in the management and benefits of public open spaces.

• To maintain good governance throughout the Land Trust to ensure it is efficient, effective and fit for purpose and that the Land Trust invests in its people.

• To ensure that the Land Trust is an exemplar of how to create, develop and manage open spaces for the public benefit.

• To position the Land Trust as a partner of choice for businesses, delivery organisations, communities and government.

• To ensure the selection and acquisition of the right land with the right funding, and the right partners to deliver the Land Trust’s charitable objectives.

The Candidate

A proven track record of success in a senior leadership and strategic role with significant experience of developing and growing an organisation. Your experience could have been developed in a variety of environments including the charity sector, property development, place making and place keeping or the environmental sector.

• You will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, be a brilliant relationship builder with the ability to manage a wide range of stakeholders both internally and externally.

• Experience of commercial activity and developing commercial enterprises.

• Commercially astute with good financial acumen.

• Strong team leadership skills.

• Evidence of high-level strategic thought with significant intellect and the ability to manage ambiguity and complex information.

• Successful evidenced track record of inclusive and imaginative leadership. Able to demonstrate significant gravitas in dealing with partners and senior business figures. An authentic Senior Leader who is resilient and robust with a positive outlook.
