The Sutton Trust

Appointment of Chief Executive

The Sutton Trust is seeking a new Chief Executive to take this ground-breaking organisation on the next stage of its journey to continue delivering and growing its vital, innovative work that has real-world impact on lives.

The Sutton Trust is the UK’s leading foundation dedicated to improving social mobility. Founded by Sir Peter Lampl in 1997, the Trust delivers programmes to 8,000 young people each year across the country, conducts rigorous research into the issues of low social mobility and educational disadvantage, and our policy work affects systemic change by influencing government and education decision makers. The Trust seeks to ensure young people reach their potential, regardless of their background, school or where they live.

The Trust has an outstanding profile and reputation in schools and universities, in the national media and in government, enabling it to catapult issues into mainstream public debate. The Trust commands national reach and is highly regarded by students and teachers in schools, colleges, and universities across the country as well as in the US.

The role will  report to Sir Peter Lampl, the Trust’s Founder and Executive Chairman, and the Board of Trustees. Leading the senior leadership team, the Chief Executive will have an effective and empowering style of management with proven ability to provide strategic oversight across the range of work undertaken by the Sutton Trust.

You will have a strong commitment to educational equality and social mobility; a significant track record of leadership in one or more of policy, research or programme development, including experience of delivering innovative and impact-led strategies, a clear ability to communicate effectively with a breadth of stakeholders including those at very senior levels, and a track record of influencing positive change. We seek a confident, positive, and creative leader with the ability to motivate and inspire stakeholders, colleagues, staff and peers.

The Sutton Trust is committed to ensuring equality of opportunity for all. We strongly encourage individuals from all backgrounds to apply for this role.
