Global publishing business with sites throughout the UK with Development, BI and Data operations managed from Glasgow are looking to recruit a Python Application Development Team Lead to join a team of software developers, QA and DevOps resources and in doing so organise the practice of developing software applications for the UK business.

The primary purpose of the role is to lead the team of software developers, QA and devOps resources developing and supporting bespoke enterprise web applications.

The team leader will already be a senior software developer: experienced in developing web applications with complex user interfaces and large-scale databases, familiar with the frameworks and technologies used: Python-Django for web applications, PostgreSQL, REACT and/or AngularJS and Elasticsearch for enterprise search.

They will have expert, applied knowledge of a modern software development lifecycle incorporating a CI/CD delivery environment, configuration-as-code, source code management, code branching strategies and manual and automated code review practices. They will be aware of secure software development practices and how to harden applications against common vulnerability.

The team leader will help formulate the team strategy for software development in all aspects, including languages, frameworks, architectural patterns, tools, training, and technology platforms.

Whilst being a hands-on contributor to a suite of internally-developed enterprise web applications, they will lead and coordinate the activities of QA and devops staff, in addition to being the primary point of contact for independent contractors and third-party providers of software development resources.

The web applications the team leader is responsible for service hundreds of users from the business and its 3rd party clients. They will work closely with project managers and business analysts to deliver the feature roadmap in response to emerging user requirements and maintain and optimise the applications for performance and security.

Description

• Lead the investigation and resolution of software issues.
• Lead the optimisation of applications for improved performance.
• Manage team member's individual priorities and devise team strategies.
• Set objectives for team members and evaluate ongoing achievement and performance.
• Define key aspects of the SDLC.
• Ensure compliance with company policies around data protection and security by design.
• Contribute to the Agile product development process.
• Work with other team managers and service owners.
