**Senior Librarian- Head of Children's Services**

Acton Memorial Library seeks a new Senior Librarian—Children's Services to join our team.

The library is well-used in our community and the new Head of Children's Services will spend time planning engaging programs and vibrant services for the Acton Children's Department. A background working in a children's department, experience managing a staff, as well as excellent and evolving customer service skills are a must.

This position is part of a team that makes key decisions for the library involving staffing, collection development, technology, programming, and services for young library users ages 0-14 and their caregivers. Applicants will have shown leadership in their previous positions and have a wide knowledge of children's literature and an invested interest in new library trends. Additionally, they should have ample skills for planning, creating, and conducting programs and services for children and families. The person in this position will supervise and mentor library staff and volunteers and should have relevant experience supervising others.

**Duties****:** Responsible for, either directly or through delegation, all routine functions of the Children's Services Department including: materials selection, collection maintenance, service on the public desk, answering library users' questions and assisting them in using the library's collections and technology; planning and initiating public-service oriented responses and programming; training and supervising employees in the department; overseeing and creating publicity.

**Schedule:** Full time benefited position for 40 hours a week Monday through Saturday. Schedule includes one to two evenings a week and one Saturday in three. Occasional Sunday hours at time and a half.

**Minimum Entrance Requirements****:** ALA-accredited Master's degree in Library Science plus 3 years of appropriate public library experience in a high volume, fully-automated library; supervisory experience; demonstrated knowledge of current trends in library services and technology for users; attention to detail; experience in basic computer troubleshooting; demonstrated communication, organizational, and public service skills; experience working with different cultures.

**Preferred qualifications****:** Significant prior experience in collection development, technology and online searching; experience planning and executing programs; website maintenance; prior experience with III SierraTM ILS; fluency or working knowledge in Chinese, Russian, Spanish, or Portuguese (Brazilian dialect).

**Special Requirements****:** Confidentiality is essential; ability to travel occasionally to meetings in eastern Massachusetts.
