A fantastic opportunity for an Interim Head of Leaders office to join our local authority client to manage a high performing executive support function for the Leader. You will lead to ensure that senior leaders are able to focus effectively on key priorities.
The successful Interim Head of Leaders office will provide strategic support to the Leader, acting as the key interface between the Leader, Cabinet and Management Board and broader administration. You will ensure that work that the Leader has commissioned is effectively communicated to the rest of the organisation and that requirements are understood. Beyond this you will also play an exciting key role in developing an effective public affairs strategy, working with key teams across the local authority to deliver.
You will have experience of working in a political environment, with excellent influencing and communication skills alongside an appreciation of the different roles of Members and officers and how they can work together most effectively. The successful candidate will have a high degree of autonomy to effectively manage a team with competing demands.
Your initial focus will be to develop and run a new operating model for the Leaders Office, ensuring that:
The Leaders time is used to maximum effect, taking a programmatic approach to ensure that political priorities are managed and actions are tracked
There is an effective and joined up forward planning process that supports efficient governance and decision making
The Leader receives excellent executive support, with streamlined systems and processes in place to support organisational goals and objectives
There is a strong policy and public affairs function that supports decision making and lobbying activity
