At South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) we are responsible for providing ambulance services across 10,000 square miles or 20% of mainland England. Covering the counties of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, Devon, Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and the former Avon area (Bristol, Bath, North and North East Somerset and South Gloucestershire), we serve a population of over 5.5 million with an estimated 23 million visitors each year. With 4,000 clinical and operational staff, we provide Emergency ambulance 999 services (A&E); Urgent Care Services (UCS) and NHS 111 call-handling, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

With a clear commitment to 'deliver exceptional patient care by exceptional people'; we are a caring organisation exemplified by our high levels of compassion, kindness, and respect towards people. Whilst there is no doubt, we have faced unprecedented demands on our Service in the past two years, we have remained committed to meeting the needs of our local communities, evolving, and adapting as needed.

We are now seeking to appoint two Non-Executive Directors to join our Board. We are looking for those already working at Board or a very senior executive level, with skills and expertise in the following areas:
  • Senior HR experience: ideally those who have led on a significant people agenda and who have impacted on the culture of an organisation
  • Clinical experience: either as a practising clinician or those whose work has focussed on the development of clinical quality and standards

SWASFT celebrates multiple points of view, and we believe diversity drives innovation. As such, we would particularly welcome applications from those who are significantly underrepresented in our sector; women, disabled people, and individuals from BAME and LGBTQ communities.

For more information on the roles, please go to our website.

For an informal discussion about your possible suitability please call our recruitment advisor, Helene Usherwood, Partner at Anderson Quigley.

Closing date for applications:11 February 2022
