EV Infrastructure Delivery - Electrical Engineer/Project Manager

Our client is in the process of developing its electric vehicle charging networks across Great Britain, with an immediate focus on the rollout of 100 x 50 kW rapid 97 x 22 kW fast charging points in collaboration with Birmingham City Council. Additional electrical engineering and project management resource is required to manage this deployment and provide expert electrical input to the design and build of the network.

The nature of the city-wide deployment means that a variety of locations will be progressed for installation, including Birmingham City Centre highways, council land and 3rd party land including petrol forecourts. The successful candidate will be required to provide expert electrical input to the designs, produce site-specific physical drawings of the development with associated design risk assessments, and will manage company subcontractors throughout the pre-construction and construction phases. Engagement in project management meetings, both internal and external facing, and the ability to manage stakeholders effectively will be a requirement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing and coordinating contractors' scheduling of work, conducting safety and quality audits of ongoing works
  • Management of Health & Safety throughout the pre-construction process, including running design co- ordination workshops, preparing Pre-Construction Information, and ensuring the obligations of the Principal Designer (PD) role are discharged appropriately.
  • Production of CAD layout designs for EV charging sites using AutoCAD?? design software, based on our standard designs and site surveys and associated Design Risk Assessment's
  • Ensuring adherence to the requirements of BS 7671 electrical installation regulations in all design and works throughout the project
  • Identifying and progressing grid connection application requirements for the works, including liaison with WPD and/or other DNOs or ICPs
  • Managing and tracking contractor spend throughout the project
  • Input to procurement exercises including contributing to technical specifications, pricing schedules, tender evaluations and engagement with our procurement department

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of the requirements of BS 7671 Requirements for Electrical Installations
  • Ability to produce CAD design drawings using AutoCAD?? design software
  • Good understanding of the obligations placed on the Client and Principal Designer under the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015
  • Experience controlling quality, safety, and planning of HV or LV installation projects
  • Strong stakeholder management abilities managing both client and subcontractor relationships

Desirable

  • Knowledge & experience of EV charging infrastructure development
  • Experience as HV or LV construction engineer
  • Delivery of ICP works
  • Working knowledge and understanding of other engineering disciplines and their interaction with electrical requirements
  • Experience of street works and associated council permitting requirements
