Context

We are delighted to be working with a fast-growing technology organisation to hire a Head of Projects & Programmes on a contract basis. An exciting organisation that is looking to grow rapidly over the next few years.

This role sits within the Engineering Ops function will involve providing leadership for several strategic customer engagements, driving the development and delivery of programmes.

This person will lead, manage and develop the PPM team in its contribution to the achievement of the engineering objectives and provide clear direction and support in the development and delivery of engineering projects and programmes.

This person will:

• Lead the portfolio of product programmes with the engineering ops function
• Support the business planning and execution through the delivery of projects and programmes with full accountability
• Define PPM methodologies for traditional waterfall, agile and hybrid programmes.
• Standardise the appropriate governance models, controls and reporting frameworks and embed into refined/new business processes
• Standardise project and programme metrics and KPI's across the PPM practice and demonstrate continuous improvement to support on-time delivery
• Lead the continuous review of programmes, validate compliance, and apply best practice principles within the wider PPM team
• Oversee programme managers to effectively budget, track, authorise and monitor spend and where appropriate perform the budget holder duties
• Identify and evaluate risks associated with the portfolio, projects and programme, agreeing tolerance levels and appropriate action to control the risks
• Devise, agree and implement process improvement initiatives and coach people through business changes
• Lead and manage cross-functional teams across multiple locations

Experience:

• Experience in managing large, multi-disciplined global delivery project teams
• Experience in successfully managing complex engineering projects and programmes.
• Knowledge and experience of Project Management Methodologies, with working knowledge of frameworks such as Managing Successful Programmes, DSDM, SAFe & PRINCE2 or equivalent
• Working knowledge of MS Project and Waterfall project management tools & techniques
• Commercial awareness, with experience of managing projects with an investment of $10m+, along with cost tracking experience and ability to demonstrate awareness of ROI
