With a differentiated proposition, our client is a public sector outsourcing SME operating across a rapidly evolving and consolidating niche market that is robust, defensive and very much ‘open for business’. Privately owned, the business has achieved sustained growth since inception having crafted a reputation for innovation service provision. With their eyes firmly fixed on an exit into private equity ownership, they are embarking on a transformational strategy focused on driving cultural evolution and doubling edibta to achieve a c.£150m exit EV. To enable this they seek to transition the leadership from the founder to meet these objectives in readiness for exit in two years.

This is a commercially focused mandate. In simple terms it majors on driving sustained profitable expansion and value creation – so we need you to achieve triple digit EBITDA growth (organic and M&A), in a fully integrated business, whilst maintaining the highest standards of quality. Naturally your immediate focus will be drawn to getting the business fit for the journey ahead; so that’s about bringing a freshness of commercial rhythm and rigor; ‘tweaking the culture’ and harnessing (and not losing) the entrepreneurial spirit of the business. In support of this, the further development of systems and processes that support profitable growth will come into focus; but perhaps more saliently, it is a business that has been founder managed, you must capture the hearts & minds of the team by demonstrating clarity of vision, reassurance and fresh commercial insight whilst recognizing the inherent values that make the company special.

This is an expansive leadership challenge requiring strategic vision, gravitas, humility and commercial acumen – it seeks graduate calibre candidates, ideally with a further management or professional qualification. However, given the transitional nature of the role, EQ is as vital as IQ. It also calls for substantive leadership exposure gained within a growing multi-site operationally orientated business where a strong customer focus and a team delivery ethos are key drivers – so you will need to demonstrate detailed exposure to developing and implementing sound strategies for change and growth in support of this. Naturally as growth is the central theme, exposure to organic expansion, M&A activity and post-acquisition integration are absolute requirements – as is your pedigree in private equity backed business. From a candidate perspective we’re sector agnostic – although exposure to public sector procurement and contract delivery is clearly advantageous.
