Operations Director, Didcot, £80,000pa - £90,000pa plus benefits:

MARS Recruitment is actively recruiting an Operations Director on behalf of a leading high technology manufacturer based in the South Oxfordshire area. This specialist manufacturer is keen to hire an Operations Director quickly, and is looking for someone who has an engineering background - degree is essential, and has progressed your career through manufacturing and into operations management and leadership.

This is an incredibly exciting opportunity to own, lead and manage a high performing Operations function, which encompasses Production, Engineering, Procurement and Contract Services, with a total of 30 staff and a manager of each team who reports directly into this role. These teams can deliver complete projects from quote to customer deliver, new product design, technology transfer, production of customer orders, quality and compliance etc. Your will provide the operational leadership they need in order to meet their individual and group targets, as well as coaching and mentoring the management team who report into you.

The Operations Director will report into the CEO and be a member of the Board of Directors, playing a key part of setting the vision and future for the company. This will include contributions to market development and business strategy. The Operations Director will attend company board meetings and report to the owners and Non-executive Directors on Manufacturing, Engineering and other aspects.

The successful Operations Director will need the following experience and skills:

* A degree in an Engineering or Science discipline.

* Experience of managing the production of complex, high value, engineer to order projects. Must have the necessary engineering and scientific knowledge to feel comfortable leading these projects.

* A strong understanding of product development and technology transfer into operations.

* Comfortable working in a high-tech business. Able to command the respect of very technical staff and fellow directors.

* Strong analytical and problem-solving techniques, coupled with the ability to communicate solutions and proposals to all levels of the business, tailoring the style as appropriate to the audience.

* Professional practitioner of modern manufacturing methods and the ability to introduce these appropriately to the company, acknowledging that one solution may not fit all parts of the business.

* Experience of manufacturing scheduling and use and implementation of MRP, Kanban and other process management tools.

* Comfortable with the financial aspects of manufacturing, including margins, Net Present Value (NPV), cash flow and capital expenditure justification.

* Experience of supply chain management desirable but not essential. Must feel comfortable working with global suppliers.

* Exceptional supervisory and mentoring skills. Able to bring out the best in staff with a diverse range of professional skills and experience.

* Able to represent the company at a senior level with the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
