The Jersey Financial Services Commission (JFSC) is the statutory body responsible for the regulation and supervision of the financial services industry in Jersey. A key International Finance Centre, Jersey continues to show its ability to meet and often outperform international regulatory standards. A forward thinking, nimble and innovative jurisdiction, Jersey is at the forefront of wealth management, trusts, funds, capital markets and banking.

The JFSC is at a key stage in its development as it seeks to play an enhanced role in the continued success of Jersey as a highly regarded international financial centre. With an exciting and ambitious internal change programme underway to increase capacity and capability, it is also a pivotal time with the next MoneyVal assessment due in 2023, the outcome of which is critical to the long-term economic success of Jersey.

This is an exciting time for the JFSC, driving its strategy to help businesses meet ever higher international standards whilst remaining a jurisdiction of choice for global financial services firms.

The role

The Director General will lead the JFSC to successfully achieve its strategic goals for the benefit of consumers, industry and the broader Jersey economy.

Due to the significant contribution that financial services makes to the Island’s economy, the Director General’s role is high profile. The Director General will need to live in Jersey and act in accordance with the highest standards of public service. With the full support of the board, they will be responsible for:

  • Leading a committed organisation, driving change across people, culture, processes and systems and working collaboratively with the board and executive team.
  • Working with government and industry to safeguard a sustainable future and ensure the Island’s businesses meet robust international standards on conduct, financial crime and prudential matters.
  • Developing excellent relationships with other regulators and relevant international bodies.

The individual 

Skills and experience will include:

  • Excellent and empathetic leadership, with a successful track record of managing and motivating people through change and transformation.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build and maintain collaborative and constructive working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • An informed understanding of the international regulatory agenda and the supervision of conduct including financial crime.
