This is an opportunity to contribute to the community within Bury by becoming a Trustee and Academy Ambassador at Vision Multi Academy Trust. Board meetings are held at Vision House, Whitefield when safe to do so.

The Academy Ambassadors programme brings the expertise of the business world onto boards at single-academy and multi-academy trusts (SATs and MATs). Academy trusts exist to improve the outcomes of young people. At the highest levels of governance, they need highly skilled individuals with a variety of experiences to hold executive leadership teams to account. Insights from a wide-range of backgrounds, ensure that boards are able to make informed choices on decisions that impact the lives of children and staff.

The Academy Ambassadors Programme is service funded by the Department for Education, to match senior business leaders with academy trusts looking to strengthen their boards. By working together, inspirational educationalists and talented business leaders can provide a better future for the next generation.

The opportunity

Vision Multi Academy Trust, in the Bury area of Greater Manchester, is made up of three primary schools, with a history of collaborative working. They are currently working through the due diligence process to potentially add a fourth primary school to the trust. As the trust embarks on a period of potential growth, it seeks to add two trustees with professional experience in education and marketing/HR or legal skills to help steer and oversee its progress. Board meetings are held at Vision House, Whitefield.

As a key member of the board you will support the trust in achieving the following over the next 12 - 24 months:

1

Further strengthening the strategic vision of the trust with a high level of challenge and accountability on its board;
2 Prepare the trust for further growth through the review of the central support services and bring a more commercial approach to how it manages the new acquisition of Vision House as an opportunity to generate income and further support the pupils in its schools;
3 Continue to build capacity throughout the trust so that it can retain its strong focus on teaching and learning;
4 Succession planning - ensuring sufficient recruitment and retention of the very best staff to continue to provide a high level of delivery for the children.

The trust is seeking to develop and grow as a multi academy trust (MAT) in order to ultimately attract other schools to join it, from different phases and different Local Authority areas.

What's involved?

Board governance in education is a strategic, 'eyes on, hands off' commitment which typically involves attending c. six board meetings per year/6 hours' time per month.

You will be responsible for:

* Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
* Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff; and
* Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent

As an Academy Ambassador, you will join our ambassador network which provides resources, guidance, networking events and webinars to support you in your role.
