The Academy Ambassadors programme brings the expertise of the business world and professions onto boards at multi-academy trusts (MATs) throughout the country to raise standards of education and improve the life chances of young people, which is critical to our social and economic success.

The opportunity

Collaborative Learning Trust, a recently formed Multi-Academy Trust comprising one secondary school and two primary schools, was founded on existing school partnerships in Yorkshire. The trust aims to constantly strive to support the development of lifelong independent learners in a child-centred and inclusive trust. It believes that this can only be achieved by building strong partnerships so that schools within Yorkshire are able to draw on the very best practice, wherever that may lie, and share expertise across the Trust.

The provision of key central services by the trust enables individual schools to focus even more on providing an outstanding school experience for children and young people - in line with the trust's vision. There is no doubt that working together in a formal partnership brings many benefits. At the same time, the Collaborative Learning Trust differs from many Trusts because it also recognises the importance of autonomy. Every school has its own context and challenges, so will need to respond to these specific needs, whilst working towards a shared vision, underpinned by shared values. This is why they have created a trust that welcomes all schools from across the region, and its legal structure means that church and non-church schools can work together as part of their Trust. All types of school are able to maintain their individual identity. This is what makes the Collaborative Learning Trust so special.

The trust employs 250 staff across the schools to support 2200 pupils, with a budget of approx. £12m.

The board currently has one board vacancy and they are seeking individuals who bring expertise in

* Corporate financial management/accountability, and
* Risk Management.

The appointed individual would be required to join the trust's Audit & Finance Committee.

As a key member of the board you will support the trust in achieving the following over the next 12 - 24 months:

1 Raising standards at St Mary's primary academy so that the school achieves at least Good at its next OFSTED inspection;
2 Growing the Trust - two new primary schools are expected to join the Trust in the current academic year, one rated Ofsted Good and one Inadequate. The central team will need to be further developed and strengthened to support the new schools when they join;
3 Inducting the new Headteacher at Prince Henry's Grammar school who starts after Easter 2022 when the CEO and Executive Head moves to a full time CEO role (this is part of the trust's plan to strengthen its central team and build capacity to support growth).

What's involved?

Board governance in education is a strategic, 'eyes on, hands off' commitment which at Collaborative Learning Trust involves attending 6 board meetings per academic year, and approximately 2 hours of your time per month (including preparation and attendance at meetings, and occasional visits to the trust when possible).

You will be responsible for:

* Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
* Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff; and
* Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent

As an Academy Ambassador, you will join our ambassador network which provides resources, guidance, networking events and webinars to support you in your role.

All roles are pro bono.
