The role of the Group External Communications Manager is to support key communication projects, campaigns and initiatives to include all corporate communications and investor relations.

Client Details

Large PLC with offices in Manchester and Sheffield in the building and construction sector going through growth and identifying the need for a Group Communications Manager to shape their external communications strategy.

Description

The Group External Communications Manager will support the defining, development and delivery of the external communications strategy, messaging and positioning, considering all stakeholders and audiences, whilst aligning to the internal communications plan and activity. The role will also require building a close working relationship agencies and leading on investor relation activity. Business as usual activity will include social media communications, crisis communications, website maintenance, annual report input and review and ensuring appropriate tools and processes are in place. Projects will include developing our social media strategy, branding, events coordination (internal and external), website development and leading on external communications campaigns.

The role of the Group External Communications Manager will include:

  • Work closely with agencies to develop and deliver external communications strategy, messaging and positioning.
  • Manage external channels and ensure timely delivery of Group-wide communications
  • Manage the updating and maintenance of the PLC website
  • Define Crisis Communications Policy and process and determine Group's involvement in local crisis management
  • Lead on all investor relations activity, particularly the interim and full year presentation of results
  • Act as first point of contact for general external communication enquiries
  • Liaise with agencies to ensure communication solutions are developed and delivered on time, to budget
  • Co-ordinate media and trade press activity in line with local and Group communications strategy
  • Lead on the external communications of our Sustainability agenda and any other broader PR activity, in line with the internal communications plan
  • Provide in-house press office support as needed, including drafting press releases and managing media enquiries
  • Work collaboratively with all key stakeholders across the Group to manage and maintain Group communication plans, projects and campaigns across all countries

Profile

Ideally, the successful candidate for this Group External Communications Manager role will be familiar with measurement techniques and be able to apply these to our channel framework where appropriate. They should also be familiar with and have experience working with press and media outlets and agencies, ideally in a pan European environment. There will be some travel to Manchester, Sheffield and London. They will also need to display:

  • Relevant degree and typically a minimum of four years' experience in a communications role within a multi-national, corporate, large organisation
  • Member of CIPR or CIM
  • A minimum of two years' proven external communications experience including investor relations
  • Excellent copy writing skills
  • Proven experience of project management and tactical campaign rollout
  • Experience of planning / designing / mapping of internets, along with internal platform experience
  • Excellent planning and organisation skills with the ability to manage conflicting priorities and the ability to work to tight deadlines
  • A high level of personal and professional credibility
  • Passionate and self-motivated
  • Evidence of being able to think creatively and implement advanced communications solutions
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a team player
  • Internal and brand experience in large organisations would be an advantage
