Job Details

Khulisa means ‘to nurture’ in Zulu. It represents our roots in post-apartheid South Africa, and our core belief that everyone has the capacity to learn and grow if they can access a supportive environment.

We exist to support excluded or marginalised young people whose behaviour is deemed challenging or antisocial, as well as the professionals, peers and carers who support them. Our vision is for a connected, safe society where people have equal access to education, employment and crime free lives. This is why we work with schools, prisons, communities and government to design a more joined-up approach through which young people develop the social skills and emotional support they need to choose alternatives to violence and crime, enabling them to thrive. We are Britain’s only charity delivering therapeutically-led behaviour change programmes, and training for the adults who support these vulnerable young people, sharing best practice at key stages of the education and criminal justice systems. This gives us an unrivalled breadth of expertise in and evidence of what works to reduce crime. We are now looking for a new Chair.

We are at an exciting time in our journey as we approach our twelfth year in operation in the UK. We punch well above our weight, have seen huge increases in demand for our services, and are becoming increasingly influential. Our aim is to treble our size and reach by 2025. To do so, we are looking for a Chair who can support us to grow and scale our impact significantly, help us generate and diversify income, and raise awareness of the charity. You will join an engaged and skilled Board of trustees full of energy, ambition, and excitement.

Supported by a Vice Chair who oversees much of our governance, you will bring a fundraising mindset and a willingness to broker relationships that increase our access and expand our influence. The ability to help raise both profile and income will be key. As such, you will bring a demonstrable track record of inspiring and motivating others with authenticity. You will also display keen commercial acumen and a history of fostering organisational success through positive growth and change.

We are looking for someone who can help to share our strategic direction, and who will understand and empathise with our mission and ethos. Someone with the ability to lead, inspire, and motivate others in an authentic and inclusive way. Someone who will bring demonstrable experience of chairing in a complex organisation and be able to evidence a significant contribution to building business and commercial success.

A commitment to making real and tangible difference to the lives of some the UK’s most vulnerable young people is non-negotiable.
