UK Athletics is recruiting two Non-Executive Directors to join the Board.

OVERVIEW
The successful candidates will join the UK national governing body of athletics, at the heart of a new vision and strategy for the whole sport, shared with the governing bodies in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. "Athletics Unified" sets out our role for the decade ahead in promoting running, throwing, jumping and pushing to everyone, with a clear pathway from the playground to the podium in the nation's favourite Olympic and Paralympic Games sport.

You will be joining an organisation and sport going through considerable change. We believe our Board should be from a diverse range of backgrounds, skills and experiences. We have committed to at least two of our Board directors being from a diverse ethnic community background, and at least 30% of the Board to be from each gender. We are also keen to encourage applicants who have recent and relevant extensive athlete experience.

For both of these roles, we are actively encouraging applications from suitably qualified women candidates.

THE ROLE

• To act as a non-executive member of the Board of Directors, offering guidance, support, challenge, expertise and an objective perspective to the Board and to the Executive.

• Attending Board meetings, sub-committees, as well as ad hoc task and working groups.

• To play a key part in the decision-making process on strategic, planning, governance and major operational, commercial and financial issues.

• To represent UKA and the sport as a whole as an ambassador and advocate.

• To promote an open and collaborative mindset, and represent the culture of the values of the organisation and the sport.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

• Demonstratable, recent and extensive experience of involvement in athletics at an international level, either as an athlete, coach, official or administrator.

• Understanding of decision making in complex, multi-stakeholder environments, and collaborative working.

• Experience in successfully setting and implementing a strong organisational culture and values.

• An in-depth understanding of the athletics landscape in the UK and globally.

AS WELL AS

• An understanding of the overall sporting landscape across the UK.

• Experience of high levels of accountability, operating in high-profile, and highly scrutinised environments.

• Excellent communication, relationship and networking skills, with a proven ability to operate with high personal integrity and objectivity.

• Experience of chairing a Board sub-committee would be advantageous, but not essential.

For further details of the role please see the attached Candidate Brief.

Closing date for applications is midnight on Sunday 12th December 2021.
