This is one of the most business focused roles in government, covering an outstanding portfolio of work.  UK Export Finance (UKEF) is the UK’s export credit agency and a government department that reports to the Secretary of State for International Trade.  Our mission is to ensure that no viable UK export fails for lack of private sector finance or insurance. UKEF’s work is varied and complex, making exports happen for projects across a wide range of sectors, business sizes and geographical territories.  We operate in all corners of the world, primarily in developing markets.

We are seeking a Director of Business Group, a critical leadership role in UKEF. The Business Group issues and underwrites the entire suite of UKEF’s financial products to support UK exporters. In 2020/21 the Business Group provided a record £12.3 billion in support of UK exports and directly supported 549 companies and 107,000 jobs. The Director of Business Group is primarily responsible for ensuring UKEF properly achieves its targets for business issued and exporters supported, and in effect, delivers a significant part of the government’s export strategy. The role reports directly to the UKEF Chief Executive and sits on the department’s Executive Committee.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of presenting at board level within a financial services environment, combined with a strong understanding of credit and new product development. They will have experience working in capital markets with a broad product background including structured/ leveraged/ project finance transactions and asset backed lending. It is key that they can demonstrate success at building effective teams, attracting and retaining talented individuals, as well as taking an active role in developing and mentoring at all levels. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills are essential.

The closing date for applications is 23:59 on 6th January 2022.
