Salary starting at:  £85,090.00 / DKK 794,062.00 / ZAR 1,724,004 but there is potential for negotiation depending on skills and experience

The climate crisis, compounded by the Covid-19 pandemic, requires an unprecedented global response. C40 Cities is a network of nearly 100 of the world’s largest cities who are leading on delivering  

C40 is a network of mayors of nearly 100 world-leading cities collaborating to deliver the urgent action needed right now to confront the climate crisis. What we do today will determine whether or not there is a thriving future for our communities, our cities, and the natural world around us. We know that climate breakdown and rising inequality, compounded by the Covid-19 pandemic, require an unprecedented response to match the scale of the crises. That’s why our mission is to halve the emissions of our member cities within a decade, while improving equity, building resilience, and creating the conditions for everyone, everywhere, to thrive.  

 

We have grown significantly over the past 5 years, expanding to over 260 staff across the world, and we are now looking for someone to lead and inspire a growing team of over 50 and play a significant role in the overall management of C40 as a member of our executive team.  

 

The Climate Solutions and Networks directorate is a global and multi-disciplinary team that supports our cities to share best practice on climate action, providing technical expertise and thought leadership across the waste, food, resilience, mobility, urban planning, building and energy sectors. A critical part of this role is to ensure that the directorate works collaboratively with all other teams across C40 and maintains effective working relations with our member cities. Our Managing Director for CSN will also secure and maintain relationships with funders and partner organisations, ensuring we are maximising available resources for those looking to access climate finance.  

We are looking for a strategic and collaborative leader with demonstrable experience in climate policy. Political nous is crucial, as is the ability to influence high-level decision making and to navigate a sometimes rapidly changing environment. Excellent interpersonal skills will be important, both internally and externally: this is a global role with an international team spanning multiple nationalities, cultures, languages and geographies. Internationalism and multi-lateral collaboration are at the heart of what we do. Moreover, we are looking for a demonstrable commitment to diversity and inclusion.
