At Alzheimer’s Society we’re determined to make the biggest difference possible for people affected by dementia. Focussing all our efforts on helping people navigate some of the hardest and most frightening times of their lives, from diagnosis, to adjusting to life with dementia and getting the care and support they need.

We are advisors, supporters, fundraisers, researchers, influencers, communicators, technical specialists and more. We are volunteers, we are employees, and we are all here to make that difference.  

We have taken a hard look at ourselves as an organisation. While we recognise dementia doesn’t discriminate, we also need to make sure that we don’t either. We’ve made good progress in the last year. We have created new network groups, and built development programmes. We have increased training and awareness, introduced reverse mentoring for senior leaders and undertaken training in allyship and other key topics across the organisation.  And we’re exploring how we can be more inclusive and creating a safe environment for people to talk honestly and openly about the things that matter to them – and how well we’re addressing those. 

But there is still much to do - what matters to us is that the changes we create are permanent and have a long-lasting impact on the organisation, who we are, the services we deliver and the impact we have for every part of our society. We aren’t interested in tokenism here.

We have co-produced an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Plan that is at the core of our new five-year strategy. The plan is forward looking and stretching. What we need now is the dynamic Equality, Diversity and Inclusion lead to help us make it happen. 

We need a strong communicator who can take people with them – someone who knows when to coax and when to push. We need a leader with brilliant technical expertise who understands best practice and can share the latest evidence.
