Job Details

As the world’s leading group of science museums, we at the Science Museum Group share our unparalleled collection of science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine with over 5 million visitors each year. Our museums are located in London, Bradford, Manchester, York and Shildon.

We have a clear and ambitious strategic vision for our future, aiming to take a lead internationally in championing the understanding, enjoyment and prestige of science in modern society. We have a wide portfolio of programmes and projects underway to enable us to achieve our vision, including major international exhibitions, commercial developments and multi-million-pound gallery redevelopment schemes.

We are looking for a Deputy Finance Director who can build and improve on our high-performing finance function and continue to instil rigour and robustness in our control environment. You will own our relationships with Internal and External Auditors and lead us through our ethos of continuous improvement. You will be responsible for managing financial operations, financial reporting, and business support services for the group. You will provide dedicated leadership for trustee committees including Audit & Risk Committee, SMG Foundation Board and Investment Committee matters.

Reporting into the Director for Finance & Corporate Services and responsible for leading a team of 16, this is a senior leadership role and a key position within the Science Museum Group.

The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant from the Commercial, Charity or wider Public Sector. You will have proven experience in a senior finance role within a large, complex, customer focussed environment. You will have outstanding people leadership skills, with the ability to direct the work of a large multi-site team, whilst motivating, encouraging and developing them. We are looking for someone resilient, organised and proactive, with robust communication skills.

If you want to champion the provision of a customer-focused finance function, drive continuous improvement and help make the Science Museum Group an even better place to work, we would love to hear from you.
