Based in the Midlands our client is a highly profitable manufacturing business utilising heavy process engineering equipment. It is part of a very well respected, profitable global group. With continued strong demand and a site with good capability and even greater potential there is now a requirement for an Operations Director to take the site to the next level.
This is a critical role requiring an inspirational leader to motivate and engage a highly skilled and long serving production team. The successful candidate will have experience of working in a Unionised environment, will have a track record of implementing LEAN Manufacturing, and the tenacious pursuit of excellence and continuous improvement.
The Role:
Reporting to the VP of the BU, the Operations Director is a senior leadership position and will assume responsibility for production performance and the manufacturing strategy. Leading a team of circa 100+ employees working a shift system the Operations Director will also ensure that operations leadership team deliver on the weekly daily plans, processes and ensure that the plant are continuously improved and optimised.
Key results areas:
* Overall Site accountability including all production activities as part of the wider operational improvement strategy, along with primary responsibility for the Manufacturing strategy and production budget
* Lead all functions on site that support the Operations production department to safely achieve the plant manufacturing performance targets to all required standards.
* Empower, engage, manage, organize, and develop the site leadership team, shift managers, team leaders and their teams, in a safe working environment with optimal working conditions.
* To foster collaborative partnership level relationships with trade union representatives, with regular partnership meetings to deliver business updates and resolve issues affecting colleagues.
* Work with HR to manage and improve training, development and succession plans.
* Maintain all site accreditations and ensure full compliance.
* Develop close working relationships with the senior site team including Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality and IT as well as HSE, and externally with the Environment agency, capital equipment suppliers, plus other business sites in UK & globally.
The requirements:
* Degree qualified in a technical, manufacturing, chemical, engineering discipline with a second business management qualification.
* Minimum 10yrs+ Senior Operations management experience including Lean management & CI principles within an engineering led manufacturing environment.
* Demonstrate strong change management/people development ability, gained in a heavily Unionised, shift manufacturing (preferably multi-process) environment (automotive, chemical, packaging, or FMCG manufacturing).
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to inspire engage and empower colleagues and leaders as well as fostering collaborative working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
* Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
What's on Offer
The package includes a base salary maximum £87,000 plus bonus (max £27K) + Fully expensed exec level Company Car or Car Allowance (£6500 pa), Matched Contributory Pension (7% matched to max 14%) + private healthcare + Share price development (RTB) scheme
