The Governors of Alleyn’s wish to appoint a Chief Operating Officer (COO), a new and vital role reflecting the ambitions of the school under the leadership of the Head, Mrs Jane Lunnon.

Alleyn’s is a vibrant co-educational independent day school with around 1,300 pupils aged 4-18. Set in the heart of Dulwich, close to the centre of London, Alleyn’s is one of the most successful co-educational schools in the country, delivering academic, pastoral, and co-curricular excellence in a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. The school traces its roots back to Edward Alleyn’s College of God’s Gift which was founded in 1619 and was the first major London school to go co-educational in 1976.

Alleyn’s values intellectual interests and co-curricular activities; it is open to new ideas and is warm and inclusive, enabling pupils to develop their potential while making friendships and enjoying life to the full. The school is oversubscribed at every point of entry and has a reputation for a creative spirit derived from its location, its history as a pioneer of co-education and its relaxed yet purposeful ethos.

Key to the continued success of Alleyn’s is the recruitment of a high calibre COO who, together with the Chief Financial Officer, will support the Head in the implementation of Alleyn’s ambitious vision and strategy. The new COO will develop and steer the infrastructure and operational strategy and ensure the effective management and delivery of support services to all parts of the school.

The role is an important and pivotal one as part of the Senior Management Team, with overall responsibility for Estates, Facilities including capital projects, Catering, H&S and Compliance, as well as IT. It is likely that International Development will become an additional responsibility in due course.

The successful candidate will be an experienced professional with a track record of managing a diversity of resources and teams, as well as facilitating operational and organisational development and growth. Applications are encouraged from candidates from a broad range of sectors who have strong commercial skills, but a commitment to, and empathy with, the wider educational and charitable mission of Alleyn’s will be essential.
