There are few institutions where you can make a real difference to the two million people who work in the UK Financial Services industry, the 40 million consumers of financial products and the stability of our economy.

From regulating consumer credit, driving action on foreign exchange manipulation to helping strengthen accountability in the banking sector, the FCA is working with the industry to protect consumers, ensure the integrity of the UK financial system and promote fair and effective competition. Their remit has expanded significantly since their creation in 2013, with the number of firms they regulate growing from 23,000 to over 60,000.

The Role

This is a rare opportunity to lead and shape the finance directorate of one of the most prestigious financial regulatory bodies which plays a vital role in our UK economy, protecting consumers nationwide.

The Director of Finance will be a member of the FCA’s Senior Leadership Team (SLT) at a time of considerable transformation, as the FCA seeks to reposition the role of finance within the business. They will play an important role in driving significant organisational, people, process and technology change in order to continue the FCA’s evolution to a regulator of the future, and a world leader in financial services regulation. They will shape and contribute to the strategic direction of the organisation, engaging and motivating colleagues across the FCA to deliver a change agenda against organisational priorities.

Reporting directly to the COO, they will be a trusted adviser to the Executive Committee and Board on all matters relating to financial performance. They will have primary responsibility for the planning, implementation, managing and running of all the finance activities across the FCA, including strategy, business planning, budgeting, forecasting and financial control. This will include accountability for evaluating the financial potential and risk of organisational activities in line with the agreed strategic priorities. This is a significant leadership role in a central enablement function that spans across the entire organisation.

The Individual

Skills and experience should include:

  • Significant senior leadership experience with a proven track record of leading, empowering, supporting and motivating successful teams and driving large multidisciplinary change projects and programmes which embody effective teamwork.
  • Extensive senior level accountancy and business finance experience with significant experience across financial governance, reporting and planning.
  • A strategic thinker with the ability to influence at a senior level, providing strategic input and challenging where necessary, as well as the patience and empathy to champion the change agenda across the entire business.
  • Experience working in a forward-thinking environment, with a history of working with strategic finance to achieve change and transformation.
  • An excellent communicator with strong leadership behaviours in line with the FCA values and culture.
